The following press release came from Freegaza.com , one of the aid groups involved in the flotilla, in the wake of the attack:
Under darkness of night, Israeli commandoes dropped from a helicopter onto the Turkish passenger ship, Mavi Marmara, and began to shoot the moment their feet hit the deck.
They fired directly into the crowd of civilians asleep. According to the live video from the ship, two have been killed, and 31 injured. Al Jazeera has just confirmed the numbers.
Streaming video shows the Israeli soldiers shooting at civilians, and our last SPOT beacon said, “HELP, we are being contacted by the Israelis.”

We may dismiss out of hand Israel's account, that their benevolent, rifle-bearing commandos were just set upon by an angry mob. So they had to defend themselves. Don't you see? It was all self defense. Everyone hates them so much that they had to storm a ship with rifles and shoot up the place.
If this FreeGaza account is true --which, since one does not believe Israelis on any matter, this account is probably true-- then this represents not only a public relations nightmare for this particular incident, but it actually represents the end of Israel itself.
This is because Israel will no longer possess the moral authority to exert any force against peaceful action. Not to mention that they'll be under a public microscope from now on. And since peaceful action in the light of day always wins out, and since the Israeli social and economic model is not self-sustaining and requires constant pressure against competing gaming groups, Israel is a doomed nation. Essentially, Israel has divested itself of the use of force, the one tool that is required for it to "maintain homeostasis," of sorts, in its favored gaming strategy.
You have just witnessed the death of Israel. You mark my words. And they did it to themselves, just as I knew they would. This is that straw that broke the camel's back.
That was quick. Sixty years. Congratulations.
